Soma is a Montreal-based production company with a diverse team of directors. The brand cultivates a relaxed, family spirit, a far cry from the corporate tone often found in the industry, and its website had to reflect this uncompromising personality.

We were commissioned to design and develop the new site with the idea of pushing interactivity as far as possible, while respecting the central principle of putting all directors on an equal footing. Every listing on the site, including the order of directors on the home page, is randomly generated on each visit. No hierarchy, just the desire to leave room for discovery.

The site is built around a large number of animations and micro-interactions that give each page its own behavior and rhythm. Easter eggs are scattered everywhere for those who take the time to rummage around, and every animation mechanism has been thought out to serve the tone of the house: playful, attentive to detail and never static. Video content, omnipresent on the site, relies on a fully customized Vimeo integration, which blends into the interface without ever looking like a generic player. The result is a site that resembles Soma more than a classic portfolio, and can be explored as a living showcase for the collective, itself extremely lively.

Les Francouvertes is a competition dedicated to emerging French-language music, each year revealing a new generation of artists through a series of shows, prizes and public events. With some thirty editions under its belt, the event relies on an impressive volume of content, with dozens of artists per year, audio and video archives that have been accumulating since the beginning, galleries, news and more.

We were commissioned to develop the new site with a central challenge: to make this mass of content navigable, lively and pleasant to explore, without ever weighing down the experience. The site also had to support the highlights of the year - opening of the competition, online voting, live broadcast of the final - while allowing the team a great deal of autonomy to develop the pages as the season progressed.

The interface is based on a highly flexible block system, giving the team a great deal of freedom in content layout. A large part of the work focused on animations and micro-interactions that punctuate navigation: transitions between sections, scrolling behaviors, elements that react to mouse-over, all designed to give movement to the site without ever stealing the spotlight from the content. The site also features online voting, live YouTube broadcasts, complete archives of previous editions, and a library of audio clips, photo galleries and videos from a variety of sources.

Maguire is a women's shoe brand with a Montreal-based design and European manufacturing. Present in stores across North America, the company is also developing a strong international online presence.

We were commissioned to completely rebuild the Shopify site, with a view to both visual and technical modernization. The new branding had to be translated into an interface that showcased the product, while content management and the integration of e-commerce tools - two aspects that were holding the team back - had to be reviewed in depth.

The site's architecture relies heavily on Metafields, which has enabled the Maguire team to maintain control over its catalog. The site also integrates waitlist management, inventory tracking by variant, and an editorial lookbook that extends the brand story. Navigation and filters have been designed to make browsing the catalog quick and easy, despite its size.
